Green light moves across the scene, where yellow tulips rise from a crystal vase among layers of fabric and familiar objects. Reflections break across the cut glass, carrying the surrounding greens into smaller shifts of light and colour. In the artist's words, “a crystal vase refracts the whole of spring” — a concise way into a still life shaped by illumination, transparency, and the atmosphere of an afternoon.
Melodie Chiang
France
Born in Taiwan, settled in France for over twenty years. A pianist since childhood, music has been the ground colour of her life. Thirty years of performing and teaching have given her an exceptionally fine ear for the texture of sound, the rise and fall of emotion, and the trace time leaves in small details. Painting is a more recent journey, begun in 2025. She works in oil, in an impressionist vein, exploring still life, figures, and the quiet poetry of daily life. Her work carries the restraint of the East and the elegance of France, moving between attentive observation and the inner landscape. For her, painting is not the demonstration of technique but the conveying of feeling — about beauty, about the present moment, about those things that resist words yet remain real.
